eHarmony offers many unique and amazing features that you won’t find on Match.com, and with over 3.5 million members in the UK the last thing you will need to worry about is the size of their membership base. Speaking of which, their members are also typically more professional than you will find on other dating sites; so we are talking accountants, solicitors, doctors, teachers, NHS, and business professionals.
So is eHarmony really free to join? Or will it cost you an arm and a leg? Well you can certainly join for free, create a profile and view your matches; but ultimately eHarmony is a paid dating site, so you will need to pay to send and receive messages. But this isn’t so bad since their membership prices are very reasonable, and being a paid site helps to deter the less serious daters and scammers too.
Just read on and you will find full details on their different membership options, the latest prices, promotions, our reader reviews, and also a short review from us.
How Much does eHarmony Cost to Join?
eHarmony has two different paid membership packages and the price for each of these packages also varies depending on how long you subscribe for. Typically the longer the subscription the less you will pay per month. The latest eHarmony Costs are:
Basic Membership Prices 2018:
|Duration||Price per Month||Saving*|
* Savings based off the 1 month full price plan.
Total Connect Membership Prices 2018:
|Duration||Price per Month||Saving**|
** Savings based off the 3 month Total Connect plan.
So you are most likely asking yourself: What is the difference between the basic and the total connect plans? Apart from a few pounds not a lot to be honest. All you are getting extra with the total connect plan is a more in-depth personality evaluation (you can find these in the Internet for free), and Private Call. Private Call basically allows you to call members on the site without revealing your number, but this is also possible with Skype or Google Talk. So please save your money and just go for the basic plans.
If you are still unclear on the different plans, then this comparison table should help.
Next I guess you are probably thinking about how long to join for? My advice would be to go for either a 3 month or a 6 month plan. The one month plan might be tempting, but it’s expensive and it often takes longer than a month to meet the right person. Their 12 month plan offers the most savings, but if you give it 110 percent then you should really not need this long. You will be better off saving the money towards your first date!
Just one small tip to give here: Like many dating sites, eHarmony will automatically renew your membership before it expires. That’s great if you have yet to find someone and are happy to stay longer, but not so great if you have already found your dream partner. So please disable the auto-renew option early on before you forget to do so! This will not affect your current membership in anyway, but will hopefully save you from a nasty shock when your next bank statement arrives.

This table provides a quick overview of the different features for each plan, hopefully providing you with a better idea as to which one to go for.
So What Does the Free Account Include Exactly?
You can sign-up without paying a single penny, this is basically their standard free account that you are assigned when you first register on the site. The features are limited and unfortunately you can’t read any messages received or send messages, but there is enough enabled to give you a taste of what to expect as a full member; you can also see if you have any possible matches. Here’s briefly what you can do with the free account:
- Register and complete the personality questionnaire
- Complete your profile and upload your photos
- View your matches (matches are members on the site that eHarmony thinks you are compatible with)
- View profile descriptions of your matches (but not their photos)
- Send smileys
So registering for a free account is certainly a good taster and will give you a much better understanding of how eHarmony works. And just in-case you were wondering, no – you don’t need to enter any payment details for the free account.
Current Deals and Promotional Codes
From time to time eHarmony has promotional offers on. And usually once a month they have a free communication weekend. During this time all free site members can communicate with other members on the site for free.

Our Reader Reviews
My wife left me after two years of marriage for one of my best friends. I could have let this event turn my World upside down but I’ve never been one for dwelling on the past or feeling sorry for myself. So 3 months later I washed my hands of both of them and joined up to eHarmony. I’m not sure if someone was looking over me from above, but the very first person I contacted on the site is now my fiancé and I’ve never been happier. Perhaps I should send my ex wife and ex best friend a thank you card.
Julie and I had both been divorced for over 3 years as well as in long term relationships that had not really progressed as we would have liked. Mutual friends encouraged us both to give eHarmony a try as a means to meet new people and start dating again. Encouraged by our friends successes on the site we figured we had nothing to lose. There was no overnight love story and it took a fair amount of effort and time to communicate with all of our matches. But eventually we stumbled across each others profiles and the rest as they say is history. Just don’t give up too soon! Because just like Rome, amazing things are not built in a day.
After focusing on my career for far too long, I decided it was time to put the same amount of effort into ending my days as a singleton. My requirements in a partner were quite simple. They should be hard working, family oriented, honest and a little charming. eHarmony’s match making system made it really easy to find just the type of characters that I was looking for. Still, somehow my first date was a disaster, my second not much better, but by my third date I found someone I felt I could go on a second date with. We’ve now been together for over 9 months.
Short Review and Conclusion
eHarmony simplifies online dating through their unique match making system. Unlike traditional dating sites you don’t need to search through thousands of profiles looking for your perfect match, because eHarmony has already selected your matches for you, based on information you provided when you completed the personality questionnaire. And in reality how does this work? Surprisingly well! I’d say around 70% of my matches were people with similar interests to myself, beliefs and values.
With over 3.5 million UK members on the site and a reasonably well balanced ratio of men to women, the odds of finding a loving partner here are most definitely stacked in your favour.
The site itself is a doddle to use, and with a very intuitive interface you should not struggle to find your way around. There are also iPhone and Android apps available so you can check your messages whilst on the move.
Being a paid dating site certainly helps to keep the scammers and spammers at bay. But do please be weary of any messages that sound far too good to be true, and if people start asking you for money then block and report their profiles immediately.
So to summarize: If you are looking for love in the UK and you are more interested in a long term relationship than a little hanky panky, then you can’t go far wrong with eHarmony.
